Father’s Day

Relationships are hard. Relationships with dad’s can sometimes be especially hard. Growing up I talked to my mom more often about deep things. I think mostly just because she was more chatty. My dad and I were bonded just not chatty. After my mom died, my dad didn’t get magically chatty-er. I was in college and not living at home so my dad and I rarely spoke at all let alone about our feelings or about deep things. We ended up emailing more than speaking. It was a good way to connect when our schedules were so very different from each other’s but also not very personal or loving. I mean it’s just hard to feel the love through a computer screen.

When we did & do get together for dinner or whatever I always get the same connection and bond as always. We love to play card games and board games. We can talk and fill the void fairly effortlessly and I just feel loved when I’m in my dad’s presence.

So dad, even though we don’t talk on the regular just know that I have never not felt loved by you. And in that alone you have succeeded in being a kick ass parent. I love you.
