I can only do what I already am

Since going to my doctor last week I got my period, signed up for WildFit, found Jim Fortin, and filmed some episodes of "Will it Air Fry?!" with my husband.  I guess I will start with Jim Fortin because it colors the rest of my stories and probably the rest of my life.

Jim Fortin

is a life coach and public speaker and entrepreneur and I heard him on my favorite inspirational podcast, "Pursuing your Purpose" by Melyssa Griffin.  I listen to it on Spotify but I'm sure you can find it other places too.  Anyway, Jim has an especially different philosophy than I've heard before even after listening to more than half of Melyssa's episodes.   His whole idea boils down to "I can only do what I already am."  For example if you are a smoker you will continue to smoke even if you know it's bad for you and you know you should stop.  Your logical brain doesn't matter because your inner habitual subconscious brain is a smoker.  If you can convince your subconscious mind that you are in fact a non-smoker; only then will you be able to stop smoking.

Now I have never smoked a cigarette in my entire life (pot yes, I mean I lived in Colorado ok?, but cigarettes no).  I think because my parents engrained this belief into me for my entire life. "Our family doesn't smoke, We are not smokers, we don't do that, etc."  It clearly stuck with me because in all of my experimenting and rebel-ing the thought of picking up a cigarette never even crossed my mind because I know deep in my soul that I am not a smoker.

So, all that to say, if you are trying to change something about yourself you have to start with your subconscious.  So for my real life example, I am trying to be healthier.  I want to make better choices when it comes to the amount of food I eat and the type of food I eat.  I want to be stronger, I want to be able to carry my future baby around without getting fatigued, I want to be able to get through birth when the time comes.  I want to live a long healthy life.

In the past I have tried to change these things about myself by changing my actions first.  I joined WeightWatchers and it worked for a little while but as soon as I stopped being able to pay for it I went right back to my old habits and gained the weight back and more.  Not to mention the fact that I felt tired all the time because I was basically starving myself.  And looking back I never believed that I was a healthy person.  My thought was, when I reach a certain weight then I will be healthy.

Jim suggests that we can retrain our brains to be what we want to be.  He told me to ask myself, "Who would I be if I already had a healthy body?"  "How would I feel if I already had a healthy body?"  "What would I do if I already had a healthy body?"

Who would I be if I already had a healthy body?  I would be happy, confident, healthy, not sick, free, make healthy choices.  So now in my morning meditation where I do a lot of 'I am' affirmations I have added these in.  I am happy, I am confident, My body is healthy and working the way that it is supposed to, My body can heal itself, I am free to move in any way I see fit, I only make healthy choices for my body.

I say these affirmations as if they were already true because Jim also taught me that your brain can learn anything through repetition even if it's a lie. But you have to believe it!  If you've ever told a lie you know this to be true.  You tell a lie once and then you tell it again to the next person, then you tell it again, and again, and eventually you don't even remember what the truth is anymore because you start to believe the lie too.

So, USE IT!!!  Tell your brain a lie over and over and over until it becomes who you are!  I am a healthy person who only makes healthy choices!  I am a healthy person who only makes healthy choices!  I am a healthy person who only makes healthy choices!  I am a healthy person who only makes healthy choices!  I am a healthy person who only makes healthy choices!  I am a healthy person who only makes healthy choices!  I am a healthy person who only makes healthy choices!

Eventually my brain will think of itself as a healthy person who only makes healthy choices.

How would I feel if I already had a healthy body?  I would feel light and good and comfortable in my own skin and clothes.  Same thing.  I can visualize feeling light and good and comfortable over and over until I actually do feel those things.

What would I do if I already had a healthy body? I would eat healthy, I would buy clothes that fit my body perfectly, I would go to the gym to lift weights and stay strong, I would go on long walks.  Once my brain KNOWS that it is a healthy person I will be called to do these things much more easily and I can start doing all of these things right now while telling myself that I am a healthy person who only makes healthy choices!

After telling myself that "I only make healthy choices" for just a week I've already started to make healthier choices. Just imagine how much better it can get if I continue this practice.  Which brings me to my next point beyond the life changing Jim Fortin:

I have joined a WildFit 90-challenge.

Look at that healthy choice I just made!  Damn this shit works.  You can google WildFit if you want more info, it comes right up.  But my understanding it that this program starts with your psychology around food and then helps train you to know what to eat.  I'm super excited about the program and I can't wait to get started on Monday.  I could talk more about it but I don't have a ton of information and I know I will be learning a lot and I want to save it for when I know what I'm talking about.  Until then, Jose and I have started working on and filming our own little video series:

Will it Air Fry?!

My friends and I recently had an 'Air Fry' party where we each brought over a bunch of foods and tried to cook them in our Air Fryer.  It was a ton of fun and we told everyone we knew about the party and our air fryer, which we love!

(Go here if you want to buy the same air fryer that we love!  https://amzn.to/2uYRQh0 )

Jose was talking to a friend of his back in Denver about the party and he wished he could have come because he loves air frying stuff too.  And he suggested that we film it next time we air fry something weird.  And an idea was born.  What if we filmed ourselves cooking a bunch of different random stuff in the air fryer and put it online so people could join in on the fun of the air fry party?  Sounds good!  Let's do it!  OK! And two days later we were filming.  I'm working on the editing now and I will definitely post links and videos here when we start posting them!

It was so fun to spend time with my husband creating something rather than just being consumers together.  I love spending time with him doing creative things because we are both such creative people and we are truly our best selves when we are creating.  (See how I put that into 'I am' statements!  Thank You Jim Fortin!)

I also got my period last week.

It's not the greatest feeling.  Actually it really sucked and I was not a nice person to be around for a couple of days but I am resilient and working through the feelings of loss and disappointment. I am adding in more feelings of hope and love with every day.

I know that my body is working exactly as it should.  I am going to be a mother.  I am meant to be a mother.  I know that my body is working exactly as it should.  I am going to be a mother.  I am meant to be a mother.  I know that my body is working exactly as it should.  I am going to be a mother.  I am meant to be a mother.

I'll just keep repeating these to myself until they become engrained in my head...
